Happy Thanksgiving!

Masumi & I have been blessed! We were going to have a simple wedding, with a simple dress, simple ring, and simple suits. But due to others who helped us, we had a great wedding with a beautiful wedding dress and rings, and men in tux.

The gifts keep on coming. “Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church” not only paid for the wedding service, the music, the wedding coordinator, the hall, and one months mortgage payment of $1,700.00, but they surprised us this week end as well! We were giving a Thanksgiving food basket w/ all the food needed for a full Thanksgiving diner.

Thank God for this church. I would like to ask a favor for this church. The church is old, and may not survive another earthquake. For this reason I was going to ask for your help. Please help this church by donating some money if you could. It would mean a lot to us if you could.

          I was very happy with the wedding, but if I was going to be asked what I loved the most, and what I regretted the most; I would have to say.

BEST

          The things I loved the most were. (Not in any order, just the way they are coming up in my head.)

1.     I loved the calls, and the people were helped make the wedding.

2.     I really loved how Kristin Boyd took time out of her way to always be there. She did so much to make the wedding happen.

3.     I was really happy on those who came to my website, and replied, and or signed my guest book. Both Masumi & I; this really meant a lot to us.

4.     We were so happy on the church helping us in our need. They helped us with the wedding, our bills, and even w/ our Thanksgiving diner.

5.     I really think Sheila Rusack made a real big difference in the wedding, and was the one that made me feel it could happen. Everyone was telling me, weddings are expensive, and that you need lots of money to have a wedding. It was Sheila’s idea to have a potluck reception, and I thank her very much for giving us the idea.

6.     I loved seeing all the people. I haven’t seen many of the people for a long time.

7.     I loved seeing Kim Kromer (Who now goes by Kimberly Doolittle) She was a friend of mine since grade school. Cathy, Becky, Madelyn, Kim & I would all play together. I have many fun memories of Kim, and she brightened my day by seeing her there.

8.     I loved getting hugs and love from everyone. (Means the most to me! 

REGRETS

          The things I regret the most.

1.     My best friend since 2^nd grade: Cathy was never there. I gave her an invite card, a call, and I never got any reply from her. This hurt me more then anything. She means the world to me. She is like the sister I never had. But with her, in my heart I have always had a sister. (I guest she doesn’t feel the say on this… Sad to say.)

2.     I only had 5 people who even replied on my Wedding forum. Only five people, out of over 200 people I sent cards, letters, E-mails to about our wedding, and I got only 5 people to say anything on our forum. (If I take out Masumi & I … it really was only 3 people, Kristin, Grant & Michelle.)

3.     I really was hoping we would of have more people sign our wedding Guest book. On line and at the wedding. (We were going to do a drawing for those who signed the guest book, but it never happened.)

4.     I wish more people would of taken the time to read the website’s info about what was going to happen at the wedding. Many people told me they were confused at the reception. I had written everything down on my wedding forum, step by step; even every song was written down step by step. I just wish those who wanted to help, would of taken the time to read those steps, and it would of went better. (Sorry to all on this one.)

5.     I wish I had more time to visit with everyone. The pictures took a long time, & that is our fault for coming to the church way too late. (We wanted to do them at the beginning of the wedding, and came too late to do this.)

6.     I wish the candles weren’t lit, & the cake was on the wheeled cart like we planned, so at both of these times we could of went to each person’s table to see everyone.

7.     I wish more people stayed longer. We had dancing till 9AM & I will we would of gone till 2AM like I was hoping.

Potluck.

            A special thank you goes out to Sheila Rusack (Bryan’s co-worker) who advised me of the Idea of having a potluck wedding. It was a great Idea, and it worked great!

          Also… A special thank you goes out to everyone who helped. (Even in the smallest way.) We’re sorry we do not have a list of all those who came with food for the potluck. But even if you do not have your name mentioned, I thank you. It was all great!

          Masumi and I want to thank all of you for making this great event even more wonderful. It meant so much to both us.

Thank You!

            Masumi and I would like to thank you for sharing in our wedding. There much I wanted to say at the reception, but was so over whelmed with happiness, I could not. Ounce I saw everyone there at the wedding, and the reception, my heart just turned to jello, “The Hall was full!” This to both Masumi and I was the best gift of them all. We were so happy that so many took time to share with us. We both thank you.

The Reception.

            After pictures were done, went to the reception hall.  When Masumi and I entered the Hall… I was over whelmed with how many people were there and how beautiful it looked. It was a full house! (Thank you all for coming! It really means the most to both of us that you came!)

          When we first entered, there were people coming from all angles to hug and greet us. We were both so happy. We went to our special set up table, and Masumi went to pick up a special long white lighter we purchased for this moment… When she noticed all the candles were already lit. (We were going to go to each table at this time, to greet everyone, and make it special for everyone who was there.) So I tried to look for maybe some other type of light I could light up the house, and found that the stage wasn’t lit up yet, so I turned those lights instead.

          Due to pictures were not done before the wedding as planned because we were late, people waited a long time for Masumi and I to come to the hall. People were all ready eating due to we were taking so long, and Jay Iqbal (D.J.: Friend / Co-worker) was confused of what music to play, because he was given a program step by step, what song to play at what time, and so on. Since people were already eating, we skipped the announcements, and a prayer.

          Masumi and I Didn’t eat yet, and every time we tried, we would get more love! I tried to get to go by each table, but felt so bad I was never able to do this. (Please forgive me if you are one of these people. My plan was to go to each table)

          Everything looked great! There were some small “Oops” issues that the average person most likely never noticed. One of the main ones was I made special plans with Jay (D.J,) to have time to go pick up his wife, but due to us being late, this was late, and he had to leave later. Veronica (Guest Book Greeter: Niece, Daryl’s Daughter) was to give each person a drawing ticket when they first walked in. Since the greeting table was not were I told her it would be, she was confused, and didn’t do this. So we never did do the drawing like we said we were. (Don’t worry Veronica; I noticed that as well…. Not your fault.)  Masumi & I thought of still doing the drawing, but w/ the list of people who have called, given cards, gifts, and a special drawing for those who signed our web site’s guest book.

          A major oops, was my speech! I wanted to thank my parents, My Mom, and my Dad (Who came in pain with cancer.) my friends, my family. I wanted to speak about how great of a person Masumi is. I wanted to say so much! But once the microphone was in front of my face… I lost it! (You all made me so happy!) But I have to say. Masumi saved me on this one. She took over, and was able to hold it in and speak. Then others spoke. To those of you who spoke, I really want to say thank you very much! Your kind words meant a lot.           After the speeches, I still didn’t eat yet, and people started leaving. People were coming up to me and telling me, we need to cut the cake now! I couldn’t I needed Jay (D.J.) back before I did this. People were telling me I have to do cake right now… I said I can’t I need to do cake when Jay gets back. The reason is I already had a plan. So I waited till Jay came back with Yunica (His Wife). I had it planned that the music would change when the cake was to come out, and it was planned that Christofer (Nephew) would role the 2 cakes out on wheeled cart. Unfortunately this never happened! The cake was put on a table in the back, and the microphone was in the front of the room, and I really needed both together. The reason was, after Masumi and I cut our first piece of cake, and ate it, the music was to change to “Happy birthday to you” and I was going to go on the mic. and have Yunica (Jay, D.J.’s wife) and Kimberli (Dan, Best Man’s Girlfriend.) to come up to the front and we would all sing happy birthday to them. Then after that, then all 4 of us would of gone to each table to serve cake to everyone. (This would be another way to make sure we go to each person’s table as well. I tried to tell everyone I wanted the cake on the cart, some how this got missed. Sorry!)

          After cake, we were going to have our 1^st dance! Many people have asked us if we were practicing our first dance. The answer to this is, “No!” we haven’t, but I’m glad we looked that good. (Thank you all who said we looked wonderful.) The 2^nd dance was to really be Masumi and my Father, and I with Masumi’s Mother. But Yoshiko (Masumi’s Mother) couldn’t make it. She wasn’t feeling the best, and didn’t want to travel from Okinawa, Japan to here with out some one else with her. She doesn’t speak English, and is not in the best of health. So for this Reason, I danced with my mother. The song was “butterfly kisses” but it was the fast dance version…. It would have been better if we had the slow version.

          Then the dancing started. We all types of music, and for those who dance, they had a great time. At 6:15PM we got a special treat. Ruth & Sabrina (Pakistani dancers) danced for us, and gave us a great show! They did 2 special wedding dances for us to watch. Most people left at 7PM but we had dancing till 9:00PM & we had people there till after 12AM when we started Clean up.

Wedding Day

            The day of the wedding, ”Rain!“ traffic sucked! Masumi, Bernadette, Curt, Daryl and I had to run down to Edmonds, to Daryl’s Salon (The beholder, Edmonds Salon.). We got our hair done, and trying to rush back to Everett, was insane due to there was a car accident, and cars went to a snail. We got there before the wedding, but were late to have picture done before the wedding like we planned. (But at least we made it!) I was already dressed, and as I got to the church, I could see Dan Rupe, (Best Man.) and Rafael Boyd, (Best Man) Kristin Boyd (Maid of Honor) and Amber Jenks (Maid of Honor) all standing there dressed up in their tux and dresses. (All looked great!) Masumi & Bernadette rushed to get dressed, while Jozef (Best Man) was nowhere in sight at this time. (Still at home on his way to the church. But don’t worry… He made it on time.)

          At this time I was able to get some pictures in, and chat with people I haven’t seen for a long time. Then Masumi told me we forgot to pick up the flowers! (Alarms go off!) But we got this taken care of, Sheila Rusack (Friend / My Co-worker) went to the store to pick them up, and was back before we knew it. (Thank You Sheila!) I went back to meeting and hugging my friends, has they came through the door. I was enjoying having my picture taken with all these great people till I was called to the front of the church to get ready.

          The church is so beautiful! “Our Lady of Perpetual Help” church is such an old church, and it is a great honor to have our wedding in this great church. In the back round I could hear the organ playing, Peggy, who plays the organ, is so blessed with her talent, we were so blessed as well to have her play for us. I was in the priest’s room with Fr. Boniface (Priest), Jozef Jenks (Best Man: Nephew), Rafael Boyd (Best Man: Friend), Dan Rupe (Best Man: Friend), Jordan Jenks (Alter server: Nephew) & Isic (Alter server: Angela, Wedding coordinator’s son) waiting for the clock to hit 1:00PM & for the music to give us the “Q” to go out… The Music stopped! And then it came up again! Dan Rupe (Best Man) went to the door, and started to walk out… But there wasn’t any bell??? Jay Iqbal (Bell ringer: Friend / co-worker) wasn’t there by the bell??? … Why isn’t he at the bell? Good timing! Daryl (My brother) comes up to wish me good luck. I told him to tell Jay to get by the bell. We find out latter after the wedding; Masumi wasn’t ready. She first of all was trying to put on the dress by her self with out any one helping her, All she could hear is people telling her to hurry up, but the more she tried to hurry, the harder the heavy dress was to put on. She finally got Bernadette (Maid of Honor: Niece) to help her with the dress, and the time was soon she was ready.

The Wedding Starts!

          The organ stopped… The church came quiet… The organ started to play, and the bell rang! Dan Rupe (Best Man: Friend) walked to the Alter. The bell rang again! Rafael Boyd (Best Man: Friend) walked out to the Alter and stood right side of Dan closer to the middle of the alter. The bell rang again! Jozef Jenks (Best Man: Nephew, taking my brother grant’s place due to he couldn’t make it to the wedding due to the snow storm in the Rockies.) walked out to the Alter and stood on right side of Rafael even closer to the middle of the Alter. The fourth ring rung! I walked out and stood on the right side of Jozef almost to the middle of the right hand side of the Alter.

          The back door then opened! The bell rang again! And Kristin Boyd (Maid of Honor: Friend) walked from the back of the church to the front of the church, and went to the left hand side of the church and stood. The bell rang again, and from the back of the church, Bernadette Jenks (Maid of Honor: Niece) started walking to the front of the church and stood to Kristin’s left and little closer to the middle of the Alter. The bell rang again, and Amber Jenks (Maid of Honor: Niece) also proceeded to the front of the church and stood to the left of Bernadette, closest of the maids of honor to the middle. The Maid of honors were wearing beautiful burgundy dresses, and each wore a yellow rose. The bell rung again, and Narita Shaw (Flower girl: Great Niece) walked up to the front wearing a cute little dress, with a basket of red and yellow flowers. She walked up to the front of the church and stood in front of Amber.

          As the organ is playing, and as Narita walked to the front of the alter, the back doors again were closed. The organ that was playing so softly before now came alive! The music roared as if the angels themselves were there as well with a full orchestra. The doors slowly opened, and the bell rang, and like sparkles of magic, Masumi was behind the door, and slowly started to walk to the front of the church, even though her face was in a veil, her face glowed, as she walked up to the Alter in her all white dress, full of sparkling crystals. I came off the Alter and had to take my arm, and I escorted her to the middle of the Alter. The Alter servers, (Jordan Jenks & Isic) came out with Father Boniface. And the mass began.

          Mike (From Church / Our Mail Man!) did the first and second reading. The Gospel and homily was by Fr. Boniface (Priest). The beautiful singing was by Cindy (From Church) while Peggy (From Church) did the organ, and the piano. Everything was perfect.

          When it was time to exchange rings, we wanted all the Best Men, and all the Maids of Honor feel important. The rings were first given to Dan and Kristin. When it was time to exchange the rings. First Dan passed the ring box to Rafael, and he passed it to Jozef, who opened the box, and passed it to me. There were three rings I got for Masumi. Before I placed the rings on her hand, I said, “As a ring is round, it circles forever, just as our love if forever.” And I placed the first ring on her finger, “In the name of the father,” then the second ring, “And the Son,” and the third ring, “And the holy ghost.” – “We God be with us always.” Then it was Masumi’s turn to give me a ring. Kristin handed the ring box to Bernadette, who handed it to Amber who opened the box, and handed it to Masumi. Masumi then said her vow, and after our “I do” we did our first kiss.

          We had our first communion as bride and groom, and lit the unity candle. After communion there were some prayers, and as we left to the back it was a cheerful feeling. Both Masumi and I were greeting people, and hugging them as they left the church. I really loved this part, but then was rushed to pictures. (Again I rather be greeting, hugging… It’s more who I am.)

          David Rude (Kristin’s dad) took many pictures of us. David took pictures of the “Bride and Groom” and friends and family of the wedding party. (As well as many others.)

            A special thanks goes out to all those who helped in the wedding.
